Strzelecki Deer Monitoring Trek

Location: TRAFALGAR
When: FEBRUARY 2020
Partners: GIPPSLAND WATER, PROCON PEST AND WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT, AGVIC

How lucky were we to head out into the misty Strzelecki rainforest to set up trail cameras to monitor deer. Lead by the legendary Shannon from Gippsland Water and Brad and Pat from ProCon we cruised over waterfalls and under massive trees ferns to see and hear about the impact feral deer are having on the bush. (Spoiler alert: it’s super bad.) Once we get all the footage back we’re going to enter into it DeerScan to help with management of deer in the area.

2020 Annual General Meeting

Location: TARRA BULGA NATIONAL PARK
When: MARCH 2020

AGM season for us means two things: getting to see some cool parts of Gippsland and delicious food. This year we decided upon the classic combination of eating nutella donuts in the Tarra Bulga National Park. We reflected on 2019, brainstormed some ideas for 2020, elected a new committee and then went for a walk through the bush. Seeing lots of new faces made us equally as happy as getting to eat the nutella donuts.

Tallest tree country- deer hike

Location: Yinnar South
When: May 2020

Into the wild- today we headed into the misty hills. We trudged along muddy long tracks, between bursts of sun and drizzles of rain... and learnt all about deer. Thanks to our resident redneck greenies Matt and Brad for sharing their stories and expert knowledge. We heard about the negative impact of deer on the bush, tips to look for deer, plus also installed trail cameras to monitor deer so we can enter our findings into DeerScan. Also a massive, massive, massive thanks to everyone who gave up their spot to ensure we could meet the COVID restrictions of only 10 people.

Together (but apart) Clean-Up

Location: VIRTUAL EVENT
When: SEPTEMBER 2020
BOSS ORGANISERS: JEM MILKENS / DAVID HOOD

The dumpster fire that was 2020 sure put a dampener on us getting together. So we got creative and created an online virtual event encouraging people to clean-up their local neighbourhood and upload snaps of their efforts to social media. Members from across Gippsland picked up rubbish from roadsides, waterways and beaches. We were very lucky to be sponsored by the Source Whole Foods in Traralgon who provided our favourite snaps with vouchers for waste-free goodness.
